Frank Msafiri SusWatch Kenya Board Chairman

He is the chairman of the SusWatch Kenya board. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Botany and Zoology from the University of Hull, UK. With 30 years’ experience in vegetation survey for monitoring range condition and trend in the whole of Kenya arid and semi-arid areas. Mr. Msafiri while working in the Ministry of Environment and Natural resource, majored in plant classification and identification, land use/land cover mapping, forest mapping, development of participatory forest management plans, community mobilization and consultative mechanisms. He also holds a number of other natural resources credentials and has undertaken studies as a consultant and authored and co-authored a number of publications

Ayoma Matunga Secretary to the Board

Marcellus Ayoma Matunga holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. He holds a Diploma in Marketing and Diploma in Cooperatives Management. Matunga has trained in NGO financial management, International trade negotiations, regional integration and counselling. He is a Research Associate with International Budget project based in Washington DC. He is currently Programs Coordinator at Social Development Network (SODNET) and coordinates Social Watch East African Region (SWEAR). He is a member of the development cluster (coordinated by the Ministries of Planning and National Development and Ministry of Trade) for the ESA/EAC-EU EPA’s negotiations. He was instrumental in the development of the Development matrix for the EAC-EU trade negotiations. He has worked with the Futures Group and International Population Centre. He has served in various committees such as Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission Strategic Committee, NGOs policy review steering committee among other committees

Juliet Makokha SusWatch Kenya Board Treasurer

She is currently the SusWatch Kenya board Treasurer. She holds various certifications key among them being: Certificate in Social Development from the Kenya Institute of Administration; Advanced Diploma in Community Development from the University of Birmingham; Certificate on Environmental assessment from the University of Cape Town; Certificate in Research from Reading University; Certificate in Social Foresting from Muguga; Certificate in entrepreneurship and Microfinance from Pan Africa Youth; Certificate in Rural Development from MASAV-Israel and certifications in Child Based Management and women in management from DANIDA and CDPA in Washington, DC respectively. Juliet is also a member of the Kenya Climate Change Working Group (KCCWG); National Committee on Energy; the Current Chairperson of the YWCA; Part of the Committee of Women at UNEP and the General Secretary for the National Council for Women. Juliet is also a former Program Manager for the energy and development programme for “Maendeleo Ya Wanawake”, where she served for 13 years

Asenath Nyamu Board Member

Asenath holds a Diploma in Community development, with Diploma in Business Management & Marketing and Certificate of Trade & Commerce, she has over 20 years’ experience in NGO Management, gender consultancy and on environmental issues. She has a wide experience in monitoring and evaluation, programme design and implementation, project coordination, programme strategic analysing, research and documentation, reviewing and re-planning, proposal and report writing and workshop mobilisation and facilitation. She is currently the Executive Director and the Programme’s manager of Rural Community Development Agency RCDA) based in Meru town with drop out centres in Isiolo County(Peace and Conflict Resolution, Water in Arid Areas) and Tharaka Nithi County Water Conservation. Asenath has been recognised by FIDA-K, CRECO, and UN Women for Gender and Governance towards a just society. She has a National, Regional and International experience on democratic governance on human rights work, as well as initiating and maintaining effective and successful partnerships with Donors and the Local Authorities, County Governments and the Surrounding targeted Communities

Sammy Okaro Board Member

Sammy Okaro holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from Catholic University of East Africa and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K). He also holds a Diploma in Cooperative Development. He has also been trained in various courses including: Financial Management at MS-TCDC, Arusha Tanzania, specializing in, among others: strategic financial management, audit and other assurance engagements, strategic planning and project management and civil societies accounting and audit. He previously worked with the Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA- Ford Foundation/USAID funded projects). Okaro is currently with the Kenya Alliance of Residents Association (KARA). He is also the Chairman of the resource mobilization committee of NEFPAK- Network of Fredskopset Partners in Kenya and also sits in the Finance and Environment Committees of KARA and the Finance Committee of the Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK)
