About EASE & CA

East African Civil Society for Sustainable Energy & Climate Action (EASE&CA) is a three-year project (July 2019-July 2022) implemented in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda under the support of CISU. The main objective of the EASE&CA project is to increase access to sustainable energy and other climate solutions to local communities in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania with both women’s and men’s full and effective participation and leadership for improved livelihoods and reduction of poverty. This will be realized by combining Civil Society Organization (CSO) activities at local, national and international levels in ways, where they reinforce each other. The project primarily works towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1 (poverty), SDG5 (gender), SDG7 (clean energy), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 17 (partnerships).

Project areas include Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania and three Ugandan districts (Nakasongola, Nakaseke and Nebbi districts). The EASE&CA project is supported by CISU (Civil society in development) society fund, Denmark.

OBJECTIVE

The overall objective of this project is to increase access to sustainable energy and other climate solutions for local communities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda both women’s and men’s full and effective participation and leadership for improved livelihoods and reduction of poverty.

LOCAL level: Initiating activities in three districts in Uganda, with dialogue and feedback from NGO representatives from three countries. This will empower poor rural communities in getting access to clean energy and improved livelihoods in an economic and climate friendly way. Training and seminars will reach the individual households as well as training of trainers, local leaders and planners.

NATIONAL level: Strengthen national civil society organizations, CSOs, initiating activities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania with stakeholders, as well as running media campaigns, working on strategies and plans for 100 % clean energy. Meetings will be held with CSO coalitions and dialogues with stakeholders, presentations for national planners, as well as media campaigns. Joint proposals will be prepared.

INTERNATIONAL level: Advocacy whenever possible. Networking, exchange experience and give voice to East African CSOs to influence development of the international framework for the national strategies and for climate financing including in the UN Climate Convention, UNFCCC.

The project primarily works towards Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 1 (poverty), SDG 5 (gender), SDG 7 (clean energy), SDG 13 (climate action), and SDG 17 (partnership).
